Ironically, the crash made him slam into his steering wheel, which caused the piece of apple to dislodge. Basically, the car crash saved his life.
Sometimes when people get older, they start to slowly lose their control of their mental faculties, which might make them do strange things. Back in 2013, one senior citizen drove his car through a pizzeria. However, because his car was so small, it fit seamlessly through the doors and caused no damage.
